Whats the difference between a basic rapid prototyping machine and a 3D printer?

3d printers are able to produce smaller parts that will fit cube 8" in each side whereas Rapid Prototyping (RP)  builds a chamber of 10" in each side. 3d printing is less costly than Rapid Prototyping. 3d printers are easy to use in comparison to Rapid Prototyping.
